The number of tokenized real-world asset holders globally crossed 3.5 million for the first time as of September 8, 2026 — up 109% in 30 days and approximately 2,500% since May 2025.

When RWAToday published its $40 billion milestone analysis on August 26, the holder count stood at 1.7 million. It has more than doubled in less than two weeks.

The distributed on-chain RWA market value sits at $39.2 billion as of today, with $386.9 billion in represented (pipeline) value tracked across all tokenization programs. The 3.5 million holder figure covers tokenized asset holders across all on-chain RWA categories — Treasuries, private credit, equities, gold, commodities, and real estate — excluding stablecoin holders.

The acceleration is the story. The market added its first million holders over roughly three years. The second million arrived in months. The third million arrived in weeks. The fourth million appears to be arriving in days.

Retail adoption is driving the acceleration — not institutional products. Ondo's Global Markets platform, Robinhood Chain, and Binance bStocks collectively provide tokenized equity access to non-US retail investors that did not exist at scale before mid-2026. The holder count growth reflects new retail participants entering on-chain equity markets globally, most of them outside the United States where regulatory access barriers are lower.
