Six months into 2026, the RWA tokenization sector looks materially different from where it started. The institutions that were cautiously exploring in January are operationally deploying in June. The regulatory frameworks that were pending are largely passed or pending final votes. The milestones that seemed ambitious have arrived, and new ones are already in sight. Here is an honest accounting of what happened in the first half — and what the second half of 2026 looks like from here.

H1 2026: What Actually Happened

The GENIUS Act passed. In July 2025, the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins Act established the first federal regulatory framework for payment stablecoins. Its passage in 2025 set up everything that followed in H1 2026: institutional comfort with stablecoin settlement rails, B2B payment adoption, and the broader tokenized finance infrastructure that stablecoins underpin. The foundation was set before 2026 began.

SpaceX completed the largest IPO in history — tokenized on Day One. SPCX priced at $135 on June 12, closed at $161 (+19%), hit $225.64 by June 16, and has since pulled back to $154. More important than the price action: tokenized SPCX launched simultaneously on Solana and Ethereum on IPO day, making it the first instance of a major public company's shares being simultaneously available on Nasdaq and multiple blockchains from the opening bell. The infrastructure held up through a 67% run-up followed by a 32% drawdown. → Full 11-day recap

BlackRock BUIDL crossed $2.5 billion. The largest tokenized fund product is now deployed across eight blockchain networks and distributing yield in real time. Its integration with Uniswap — a regulated institutional money market fund accessible through a decentralized exchange — marked the sector's clearest bridge between institutional finance and DeFi. → Securitize, BUIDL's transfer agent, is going public

The CLARITY Act cleared Senate committee 15-9. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act passed out of committee in May with bipartisan support and sits on the Senate floor calendar. It needs 60 votes before August recess. This is the market structure legislation that every institutional participant has been waiting for — and it is closer to passing than it has ever been. → Call your senator

Tokenized stocks crossed $1 billion. The category that barely existed 18 months ago now has $1 billion in market cap and $25 billion in cumulative trading volume across platforms. Ondo expanded to 430+ instruments via MetaMask. eToro announced 100+ ERC-20 tokenized stocks for 35 million users. The retail distribution layer is finally building.

Securitize filed to go public as SECZ on NYSE. The shareholder vote is June 29. The first publicly traded RWA tokenization infrastructure company would represent a new level of financial transparency and public accountability for the sector. → Full coverage

Tether launched the world's first gold-backed Visa card. XAU₮ spendable anywhere Visa is accepted, 6% cashback in tokenized gold, targeting emerging markets with $32B in real-world asset volume. The most tangible mainstream adoption story of H1. → Full coverage

RWA holders approached 1 million. From effectively zero in early 2024, the sector is now days from crossing one million unique RWA asset holders globally. Represented asset value reached $357.84 billion.

H2 2026: What to Watch

June 29 — Securitize SECZ shareholder vote. If approved, the NYSE listing follows within weeks. The first public company dedicated to RWA tokenization infrastructure creates a new disclosure regime for the sector — quarterly earnings that tell us exactly how fast institutional tokenization is growing in revenue terms.

July/August — CLARITY Act floor vote. The most consequential near-term catalyst for the entire sector. A yes vote before August recess clears the primary regulatory barrier for institutional adoption at scale. A failure to vote kicks the can to 2027. The window is closing. → Act now

This month — DTCC tokenized settlement launch. The Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation, which processes $114 trillion in annual securities volume, is launching tokenized settlement infrastructure this month. When the DTCC integrates blockchain settlement into its core infrastructure, the entire US capital market begins running on rails that tokenized assets can natively use.

Q3 — eToro tokenized stocks live. 35 million users getting access to 100+ US equities as ERC-20 tokens is the single largest potential distribution event for retail tokenized stock adoption. When it launches, watch the holder count data closely.

August 6 — SpaceX first public earnings. SPCX's first quarterly earnings report. The three things to watch: Starlink subscriber growth (the core bull thesis), xAI capex trajectory (the core bear concern), and Starship development progress. The report will set the narrative for the stock — and for tokenized SPCX — through year-end.

December 2026 — SpaceX insider lockup expiration. 180 days after the June 12 IPO, the insider lockup expires and significant new share supply enters a market with only a 4% float. This is the most predictable structural event on the SPCX calendar and will affect tokenized SPCX positions equally.

Ongoing — 1 million RWA holders. The sector is days away. When it crosses, it's a milestone worth marking — and the growth rate makes 2 million feel like a 2026 possibility rather than a 2027 aspiration.

The Honest Assessment

H1 2026 delivered on most of what the sector expected — institutional deployment at scale, regulatory progress, growing retail access. What it has not yet delivered: the mainstream retail breakthrough. The 937,928 holders are real, but they are dwarfed by the retail financial platforms that haven't yet opened their doors. That breakthrough — a major retail bank offering tokenized yield in its app, Fidelity's wealth management clients getting tokenized product allocations, eToro's 35 million users receiving ERC-20 stocks — is H2 2026's primary open question.

The infrastructure is ready. The regulatory framework is close. The distribution is the last piece, and it is beginning to move.
