TOKEN2049 Singapore 2026 is over. The full week — October 5 through 9 — produced the most concentrated RWA institutional activity the industry has seen in a single location. This is the complete recap, from Mantle RWA Day on October 6 through the TOKEN2049 main conference on October 7–8 and the RWA Summit on October 9.
October 6: Mantle RWA Day
We covered Mantle RWA Day in detail when it happened. The short version: 1,000 attendees (57% C-level) at The Exchange, Singapore Land Tower. Mantle launched Tokenization-as-a-Service (TaaS). World Liberty Financial confirmed USD1 stablecoin is coming to Mantle. Hyperliquid DEX liquidity access announced for Mantle-issued tokenized assets. Full recap at RWA Day article.
October 7–8: TOKEN2049 Main Conference
Marina Bay Sands. 25,000 attendees from 160 countries. 300+ speakers across six stages. 500 exhibitors. Sold out. The institutional financial services presence was not peripheral — it was on the main stage.
Jenny Johnson's "Digital Twins" Moment
The most significant RWA statement from the conference came from Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson on Day 2. Johnson appeared on a panel alongside Richard Teng (CEO, Binance) and Yuval Rooz (CEO, Canton Network) — a lineup that signals where institutional tokenization is landing: a traditional asset manager, the world's largest crypto exchange, and the settlement infrastructure that DTCC is building on.
Johnson's critique of the broader tokenized fund market was direct. She argued that many rival tokenized funds are "digital twins" of traditional products — digital copies that use blockchain as a reporting layer while the actual ownership records, transfer mechanisms, and fund administration remain on conventional infrastructure. BENJI, she argued, is different: it uses blockchain as the primary recordkeeping layer, not a parallel system bolted onto existing processes.
The distinction maps directly onto the debate the SEC's TSV Innovation Exemption is trying to resolve. Products that convey genuine on-chain ownership are treated differently from products that only reference traditional positions. Johnson was making the same argument regulators have been making — from an asset manager's perspective, to a 25,000-person audience.
BENJI's on-chain assets reached approximately $2.60 billion as of the conference date, per rwa.xyz — up from the $2.5 billion figure cited in earlier 2026 reporting.
TOKEN2049 Institutional
On October 8, TOKEN2049 debuted TOKEN2049 Institutional — a private, invitation-only gathering of 250 senior leaders from global finance and digital assets, running in parallel with the main conference. Sessions were led by Zoltan Pozsar (the former Credit Suisse and US Treasury official who has written extensively on monetary plumbing and blockchain infrastructure), Timothy Moe (Goldman Sachs), and Tom Lee (Fundstrat). Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, Solana Foundation, and Franklin Templeton were all represented.
TOKEN2049 Institutional is a signal in itself. The world's largest crypto conference now runs a closed-door institutional track that most of its 25,000 attendees cannot access. That is a recognition that the conversations between Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, and Zoltan Pozsar about monetary infrastructure and tokenized settlement require a different environment than the main conference floor.
Other Notable Speakers
Adena Friedman (Nasdaq Chair and CEO) and Amy Oldenburg (Morgan Stanley Head of Digital Asset Strategy) were confirmed main-stage speakers. Nasdaq's participation in the DTCC's July 15 live production trades on Canton Network makes Friedman's presence directly relevant to the RWA institutional adoption story. Morgan Stanley's Oldenburg represents the firm's most prominent TOKEN2049 appearance to date.
Arthur Hayes (CIO, Maelstrom) promoted FLOP, an AI-agent token with a Q4 2026 airdrop planned. Coinbase announced completion of its Deribit integration, creating Coinbase Global Exchange — combining US institutional infrastructure with Deribit's dominant options market. Balaji Srinivasan opened with a keynote titled "The Open Source Network State."
TOKEN2049 Announces New York Expansion
The most significant structural announcement: TOKEN2049 is expanding to New York. TOKEN2049 New York will take place June 16–17, 2027 — the first US edition of the conference. TOKEN2049 Dubai returns April 21–22, 2027. Singapore returns October 6–7, 2027.
A New York edition changes the conference's institutional reach substantially. Most senior US financial services executives fly to Singapore for TOKEN2049. A New York edition puts the conference where they already are, in the deal-making window before summer. The institutional track that debuted in Singapore will almost certainly anchor the New York edition from day one.
October 9: RWA Summit Singapore
The RWA Summit closed RWA Week at Marina One West Tower with 70+ speakers and 1,200+ attendees. Franklin Templeton, Animoca Brands, Centrifuge, Alchemy Pay, dYdX Foundation, and Schroders were represented. The Summit's "from billions to trillions" framing reflects the central question the institutional RWA market is working on: the infrastructure and regulatory frameworks needed to scale beyond the current $38–46 billion market. Summit-specific coverage will follow as additional reporting becomes available.
What the Week Proved
Three structural signals stand out above any individual announcement:
Institutional presence has normalized. Jenny Johnson criticizing competitors from a main stage, Adena Friedman at a crypto conference, Goldman Sachs in a closed institutional track — none of this was remarkable for being unusual. It was remarkable for being entirely expected. The institutional presence that would have marked a milestone two years ago is now the baseline.
The "digital twin" critique is the central RWA quality debate. Johnson's framing — genuine on-chain infrastructure versus digital copies of traditional products — is the question the SEC's regulatory framework is implicitly asking. It will determine which tokenized fund products succeed at institutional scale. Products using blockchain as the system of record have a structural advantage in the regulatory environment forming around them.
New York in 2027 changes what TOKEN2049 is. Singapore draws institutional participants who travel for it. New York will be where they already are. That edition will be the most institutionally concentrated TOKEN2049 yet.
