Welcome to Issue #008 of RWA This Week. Two weeks of major news since Issue #007. The DTCC ran live tokenized trades on July 15. The CLARITY Act missed its Senate window. The UK launched a 54-firm taskforce. The GENIUS Act turned one with rules still pending. And the sector crossed $33.5 billion in on-chain RWA value. Here is everything that matters.
The Stories
The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation converted DTC-held securities into tokenized "digital twins" and let institutional clients trade them in live production on July 15, 2026. The instruments: Microsoft shares, Circle shares, Invesco QQQ Trust, SPDR S&P 500 ETF, and BlackRock's iShares 0-3 Month Treasury Bond ETF. Participants: JPMorgan, Vanguard, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, CME, NYSE, Nasdaq — 40+ firms total. SEC no-action letter provides the legal foundation. Full commercial launch: October 2026. This is the most significant single infrastructure event in the RWA sector's history. → Full coverage
A new merged CLARITY Act draft circulated July 22 with a temporary ethics provision sunsetting in 2029 — the key Democratic demand blocking the bill. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced the bill is set for a full Senate floor vote. The Senate has approximately 16 days before August recess. Three disputes remain (ethics, Section 604, stablecoin yield) but the July 22 draft is the most significant breakthrough in months. Polymarket gave 32% odds as of July 17 — before this draft dropped. The bill is alive and actively moving. → Full analysis: where the CLARITY Act actually stands
July 18 was the one-year anniversary of the GENIUS Act's enactment — and the rulemaking deadline regulators missed. Implementing rules from the OCC, FDIC, NCUA, and Treasury remain at proposal stage. The Act's effective date has moved to January 18, 2027 (or 120 days after final rules issue, whichever is earlier). We reported July 18 as the rules-go-live date in a previous issue. That was incorrect and we are correcting it here. JPMorgan, Societe Generale, and others continue stablecoin preparation without waiting for final rules. → Full correction and update
July 13: UK government unveiled a 54-firm tokenization taskforce including BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley. HSBC Orion approved for the Bank of England Digital Securities Sandbox. July 14: US Treasury and UK HM Treasury jointly released compatible framework recommendations on tokenized securities, stablecoins, and cross-border capital raising. First Digital Gilt Instrument expected Q1 2027. The US and UK are now explicitly coordinating their tokenization regulatory frameworks. → Full coverage
RWA.xyz data as of early July 2026: on-chain freely tradable RWA value (ex-stablecoins) reached $33.5 billion — up from roughly $11.8-14.1 billion a year ago, nearly tripling. Represented value: approximately $345-369 billion. Notable composition: Figure's HELOC channel alone represents $18.3 billion, or 31% of the entire tokenized market. Tokenized US Treasuries hit $15 billion across 100 assets, with 99% on public blockchains. The Stobox mid-year report notes the sector's on-chain value has quadrupled from early 2025 — driven by Treasuries and private credit with tokenized equities emerging as the fastest-growing new category post-Nasdaq approval.
BeInCrypto's mid-year research reports that 97% of tokenized RWA value is inaccessible to US retail investors. Only 3% falls under the 1940 Investment Company Act framework accessible to retail. This figure illuminates the gap between the institutional adoption story and the retail adoption story — and explains why DTCC's October 2026 commercial launch and eToro's announced tokenized stocks are consequential: they represent the infrastructure being built to close that gap. Source: BeInCrypto, July 10, 2026.
The percentage of tokenized RWA value that is currently off-limits to US retail investors. Only 3% of the $33.5 billion on-chain RWA market is accessible under the retail-friendly 1940 Act framework. This is the adoption gap the sector needs to close — and it explains why the DTCC's October commercial launch, eToro's announced tokenized stocks, and the CLARITY Act's eventual passage all matter so much for the next phase of growth.

What to Watch
October 2026 — DTCC full commercial launch. The date that transforms July 15's production pilot into the standard clearing infrastructure for US institutional tokenized securities. Every firm in US capital markets becomes implicitly connected to blockchain settlement when DTCC goes fully commercial.
Q1 2027 — HSBC Orion Digital Gilt. The first UK government tokenized bond settling through the Bank of England's Digital Securities Sandbox. A sovereign government bond settling on blockchain in a G7 country is a milestone that changes the conversation about tokenized government debt.
January 18, 2027 — GENIUS Act effective date. The operative date after which the full stablecoin regulatory framework is live. Banks currently preparing stablecoin products are targeting this window for launch.
eToro tokenized stocks. No confirmed live date yet. Watch for an announcement. When 35 million users get access to tokenized equities through their existing brokerage interface, the retail adoption curve changes shape.
